About SquareLease

Making Australian tenancy law accessible to everyone — renters, landlords, and property professionals.

Why we built this

Renting in Australia shouldn't require a law degree. The rules about notice periods, bond deductions, repair obligations, and entry rights are real, specific, and enforceable — but they're scattered across eight different pieces of state legislation, hundreds of tribunal decisions, and guidance documents that most people will never read.

SquareLease was built to change that. We index the source legislation, translate it into plain English, build tools that do the calculations for you, and make the whole thing searchable. If you're a tenant who wants to know whether your rent increase is legal, or a landlord who needs to know how much notice to give before an inspection, you should be able to find that answer in thirty seconds — not thirty minutes.

We're independent. We don't represent tenants, landlords, or real estate groups. We represent the law as it actually is, with citations so you can verify it yourself.

What we stand for

Searchable

Tenancy law is scattered across thousands of pages of legislation, tribunal decisions, and guidance documents. We make it findable in seconds.

Plain English

We translate legal language into plain English guides without stripping out the accuracy. You get the right answer, not a simplified one.

Actionable

We don't just explain the rules — we give you calculators, templates, and checklists that let you act on them.

Up to date

Australian tenancy law changes constantly. We monitor every state and territory and update our content when laws change.

A note on legal advice

SquareLease provides general information about tenancy law sourced from official legislation, tribunal decisions, and government guidance. This information is not legal advice and should not be relied upon as such. Your situation may have specific facts that change the legal position significantly. For important matters, we always recommend consulting a qualified solicitor or contacting your state's tenancy authority or legal aid service.
